The members of Storm Water Management Authority, Inc. have recognized sedimentation as one of the most common and harmful pollutants to the streams and rivers of Jefferson County.

An Erosion and Sedimentation Control Ordinance is currently in place for the members; however a revision is being developed to address the concerns issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The members of Storm Water Management Authority, Inc. conduct erosion and sedimentation control inspections on construction sites to make sure  construction sites are currently in compliance with the current ordinance and Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) rules.

The current ADEM erosion control guidelines are listed in the AL Handbook for Erosion Control, Sediment Control and Stormwater Management on Construction Sites and Urban Area.

JCDH and Storm Water Management Authority have published a brochure for individual lot construction that will be helpful to homebuilders.
